Five Things You May Not Know About The Embarcadero Resort & Marina

One of my favorite childhood vacation memories is the time our family spent at The Embarcadero Resort & Marina in Newport, Oregon. My father grew up in a big city and my mother hailed from the Midwest. They moved West attracted by the allure of the wild Oregon Coast. Although they settled in the Willamette Valley, frequent trips to explore the beauty of the Oregon Coast were always a big part of our family vacations together. We discovered the wonderful family-friendly amenities of The Embarcadero not long after it had been built. Tucked quietly on Newport’s Bayfront the resort features a combination of well-appointed studios and suites all with balconies and an easy walk to a variety of restaurants and shops scattered along the Bayfront.

A few things you might not know about The Embarcadero are:

  1. The Embarcadero offers a variety of accommodations that sleep 2, 4 & 6 people. As an example, their one bedroom queen suites are designed for travelers that enjoy a larger room and like their own space. This spacious queen suite includes a separate bedroom with queen bed and some have a queen or twin sofa sleeper in the living area. All one bedroom suites have a full size and fully equipped kitchen. Perfect for families with children. A few of the room amenities include: hair dryer, iron and ironing board, 2 flat screen TVs with remote, cable and DVD player, private peck, and views of Yaquina Bay and Bay Bridge. Many rooms have a wood burning or gas fireplace, and stackable washers and dryers. Your key card will allow access to the indoor saltwater pool, spas, saunas and exercise room. Pet friendly rooms are available on a limited basis.
  2. The resort has great family-friendly amenities that will make your visit fun year-round. On-site you will enjoy:
    • Saltwater swimming pool
    • Pool/beach towels
    • Heated pool
    • Sauna
    • Spa
    • Men’s & women’s locker rooms
    • Work-out facility
  3. The Embarcadero offers its own private boat marina with 233 slips. Bring your own boat or rent a boat from the marina to take out and explore the epic wildlife that populate Yaquina Bay. You’re sure to have an up-close and personal visit from one of the hundreds of seals that make the bay their home.
  4. A “must-do” activity when visiting the Oregon Coast is crabbing for fresh Dungeness crab. The Embarcadero has a private crabbing dock and their marina will set you up with inexpensive crab pot rentals and bait. Once you catch your limit of crab you can conveniently cook your crab in their large crab cooker that is only available to resort guests. Nothing more satisfying or delicious than freshly boiled crab served with drawn butter or atop a delicious salad. (Don’t forget your crab crackers.)
  5. There are many other great things to do near the resort that are a short walk or 5 to 10 minute car-ride away. Visit the Hatfield Marine Science Center, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Oregon Coast Glassworks, Devils Punchbowl or relax with a bonfire on the beach and cozy-up to watch the sunset. So much to do and enjoy at the Oregon Coast while making The Embarcadero Resort & Marina your home base.
